Solar One

Leading New York City into a renewable future

Project Intro

Solar One is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to design and deliver innovative education, training, and technical assistance that fosters sustainability and resiliency in diverse urban environments.

highlights

As the organization approached new milestones in its 18-year history—including the development of an Environmental Education Center and expansions of its existing programs—CMYK recognized a need to reorganize and restructure the previous site’s robust collection of pedagogical material, engagement opportunities, and program content.

Tasked with a full site redesign, we sought to create a streamlined, inviting, and interconnected digital space to house each of the organization’s subsidiary programs, and improve information architecture to ensure the platform offers an accessible yet comprehensive approach to engaging users.

To accomplish this, we rebuilt the site’s structure from the ground up to better illustrate the organization’s breadth of programming, resources, and advocacy. By creating designated resource hubs for specific programs, users could more easily navigate to relevant content based on their needs, and by assigning unique color palettes to each of the organization’s key programs, we illustrated the scope and diversity of Solar One’s mission.

Finally, knowing that user demands for the site varied considerably—whether that be registering for an event, sourcing educational materials, or seeking support for sustainable solutions in their own neighborhoods—we streamlined their means of getting in touch by taking a clear, accessible approach to contact forms. Important announcements and content features were also given striking new presentations to encourage deeper and more meaningful engagement.
