When Foursquare moved their New York operations into a new office space, they felt the lobby was in need of a statement piece, a reflection of the company’s continued growth and success. Using advanced Cinema 4D software and complex user data sets, CMYK pitched an idea for a massive light sculpture of Manhattan’s skyline, inverted and hung from the ceiling.
Designed as a series of hundreds of RGB LED tubes arranged in rough simulation of the topography of New York, the sculpture would update in real-time based on anonymized user data flowing through the company’s systems. As imagined, the chandelier would flicker and glow across the island and up and down the heights of buildings throughout the day, showcasing the breadth and scale of Foursquare’s database and processing capabilities and bringing together both beautiful design and cutting-edge creative engineering
