Film maker Marco Williams’ documentary The Undocumented is an in-depth look at the scores of deaths of illegal immigrants crossing the Mexico-Arizona border. Their bodies would be found in the desert without identification and unclaimed. The details of their person (physical description, what they were wearing, etc.), as well as their GPS coordinates would be logged into a database maintained by the Arizona coroner.
We wanted to present a way to tell the story of these anonymous people—not only to supplement Williams’ vision and film, but also to act as a support for those families still looking for a lost member. Using the extensive information in the Arizona database, we created an interactive web platform which visualizes the exact geo-location and relevant data of these deaths as they are documented in real time. This platform helped raise greater awareness about the film and the cause.
